Purpose : Esteya and Valencia surface applicators are designed to treat skin tumors using brachytherapy. In clinical practice, in order to avoid errors that may affect the treatment outcome, there are two issues that need to be carefully addressed. First, the selected applicator for the treatment should provide adequate margin for the target, and second, the applicator has to be precisely positioned before each treatment fraction. The evolution, diversity and host associations of rhabdoviruses

Metagenomic studies are leading to the discovery of a hidden diversity of RNA viruses, but new approaches are needed predict the host species these poorly characterised viruses pose a risk to. The rhabdoviruses are a diverse family of RNA viruses that includes important pathogens of humans, animals and plants. We have discovered the sequences of 32 new rhabdoviruses through a combination of our own RNA sequencing of insects and searching public sequence databases. Combining these with previously known sequences we reconstructed the phylogeny of 195 rhabdovirus sequences producing the most in depth analysis of the family to date. Resumen Desde la introduccion de la inmunoterapia el tratamiento del melanoma ha sufrido una revolucion, consiguiendose cifras de supervivencia superiores a las que se alcanzaban con los tratamientos previos. Los farmacos inmunomoduladores disponibles actualmente van dirigidos principalmente frente a las moleculas de superficie CTLA-4 y PD-1, que ejercen un efecto inhibidor sobre la respuesta inmune antitumoral. Se trata de un tratamiento en pleno proceso de expansion, y la investigacion se dirige hacia el descubrimiento de nuevas moleculas, las combinaciones de los farmacos disponibles o la identificacion de biomarcadores que permitan seleccionar a los pacientes idoneos para cada terapia.

Resumen Las manifestaciones dermatologicas de las leucemias incluyen lesiones especificas e inespecificas (infecciones oportunistas, purpura y equimosis, sindrome de Sweet, etc.). La infiltracion de leucocitos neoplasicos en la piel se conoce como leucemia cutis, y es de especial interes el diagnostico por su implicacion pronostica. Hemos recogido los casos de leucemia cutis en nuestro servicio entre 1994 y 2014, con un total de 17 pacientes, y hemos evaluado sus caracteristicas (edad, sexo, historia medica), la morfologia de las lesiones y su relacion con la enfermedad sistemica. Resumen El uraco es un grueso cordon fibroso que aparece a partir del quinto mes de gestacion como consecuencia de la obliteracion de la alantoides. Los quistes de origen uracal se producen como consecuencia de un defecto en la obliteracion de dicho conducto, anomalia que se detecta principalmente en ninos y raramente en adultos. Presentamos 3 casos de quistes uracales en adultos, uno de ellos detectado durante el estudio de dolor abdominal y los otros 2 hallados de forma incidental durante el estudio de otras patologias. Resumen En el ano 2016, se han publicado numerosos articulos de calidad sobre la enfermedad de Crohn (EC) y la colitis ulcerosa (CU). La importancia de la dieta o de los germenes en la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal (EII), la repercusion de la EII en la calidad de vida, el papel de la calprotectina o la posibilidad de usar el PET en el seguimiento de la EII son algunos de los temas a destacar. El tratamiento ha sido foco de numerosos ensayos, consolidando el infliximab (sugiriendo niveles en la semana 2), el adalimumab y el golimumab, como tratamientos de primera linea, apoyando el uso de ustekinumab en EC, y dejando el metotrexato como ultimo recurso en la CU, salvo en artropatia.
